I dunno … in Idaho.

I dunno … in Idaho.

Luke found a really cool spot in Idaho, it was a Birds of Prey Wilderness Sanctuary. We drove through it and were awed by its scenery, but weren’t so awed by the 95-degree temperatures in the area. This place also lacked shade and had a no fire policy, so we decided to change course and find a new place. Part of this journey is about learning to be flexible and okay when things don’t work, so it was good to…

To the… dinosaurs?

To the… dinosaurs?

CO > UT Upon crossing into Utah, we noticed on their welcome sign was a dinosaur, and we knew we were in for a good time. The National Dinosaur Monument apparently is close by so they replaced the red rocks with your friendly T-Rex. We didn’t stop to see said monument because we had a decent drive ahead of us. We were on our way to Sandy, Utah for our second motel night. Since we ended up being in a…

Brooke’s Reflections

Brooke’s Reflections

We’re only on the second week and I’ve already learned so much. Technically I left home three weeks ago so the letting go process has been longer than our official adventure start date. I wanted to take a minute to write down some things I have learned/observed for a couple reasons. First, to be able to look back and see how far I have come and second, I really want this blog to be a resource for others. If you…

The Rockies.

The Rockies.

WY > CO Rocky Mountain National Park To drive from Wyoming to Colorado, you have a few options. Brooke saw in a national parks book we have that you can take a scenic highway through the Rocky Mountain National Park and it was directly in line with the campsite we were headed to. Even though you have to pay the park fee of $20, it was worth it. Because we have our pups with us we’re pretty limited on any…

Hail to Wyoming

Hail to Wyoming

SD > WY We spent our first night in Gilette in a motel. It was nice to relax, get cleaned up and do some laundry. Wyoming was beautiful, but it was the first place we encountered rain which really put a damper on things (see what we did there?). But, more on the rain later. Glenrock, Wyoming The second night, Monday, August 14th we stayed in Glenrock, Wyoming in a camp spot called the “Bixby access area”. You drive about…

The Badlands

The Badlands

NB > SD Onto the land of the bad. There’s a website we’ve been using called freecampsites.net that offers all the information you could want on campsites throughout the US. It has RV, tent camping, official campgrounds, dispersed campsites, pet-friendly, etc. People can also add comments and descriptions about the place there so you can learn about views, safety, noise…etc. It’s super handy! Luke had used that to find us a spot and he learned that there was an…

Ode to the toad

Ode to the toad

There once was a dog named Sox. He thought he was clever as a fox. While on the road, He bit a toad, And that’s when things went south. He started foaming at the mouth! Confused and afraid, His parents became dismayed. When he vomited at midnight It caused quite a fright! But the Googlez said he’d be okay Oh, what a happy day. The morale of this story kids is that Google knows everything. Or maybe it’s that if your dog…

Two nights, two sites.

Two nights, two sites.

KS > MO > IA > NB We decided that it was best to carve out our days into smaller drives so we weren’t just utterly exhausted and had forgotten how to stand up by the time we got to a campsite. Luke had carved out a route for the first few stops, so we said goodbye to the family in Kansas, loaded up the pups and we were off.   Night One   We didn’t actually stop in Missouri…

Shoester, we’re not in Phoenix anymore.

Shoester, we’re not in Phoenix anymore.

Hi! Sorry for any words spelled wrong, I can’t get my feet to hit the keys in the right spots. Woof, oh well. My mom told me I should introduce myself, so hi I’m Sox. Well, at least to my human friends. I wanted to tell you a story about my first real road trip … I think that’s what those are called. Did you hear we’re doing that? Well, it was news to me. I’ll tell you how…

Vroom Vroom First.

Vroom Vroom First.

PHX > NM > KCKS Many people have asked us “so, where are you going first?”. Well to answer once and for all, it makes sense to just make a post about it. Our Beauchamp side of the family lives near Kansas City and months back had offered some storage unit space for any belongings we wanted to pack up. They also have a truck and a cargo trailer that they offered to drive to Phoenix and help us get…
